Comet Shipping berths Lady Jane at Onne

Mv Lady Jane

Mv Lady Jane, the largest container vessel ever (on a maiden visit) to navigate Rivers Port is berthing now (2:30 pm 13th April 2022) at West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) at Onne Port, Rivers State, Nigeria.

This is a historic date, a landmark and a positive development for Onne Port, the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and, in particular, Comet Shipping Agencies, the indigenous shipping agent handling the OOCL big vessel in collaboration with WACT.

WACT is noted internationally as a very professional organisation in vessel and cargo handling and Lady Jane is therefore expected to have a beautiful stay in Onne Port, Nigeria.

The Group Managing Director of NAL-Comet Group, Mr. P. Luigi Carrodano was elated not only about the smooth sail of Lady Jane but the possibility and practicability of welcoming and berthing large vessels at Rivers Port.

“This is a welcome development and good for the international image of Rivers Port and Nigeria’s port industry in general. We have shown the world that in terms of capacity, Nigerian ports and indeed Nigerian companies like Comet Shipping Agencies could handle mother vessels,” said Carrodano.

Lady Jane is 296 metres long with more than 12 metres draft. Credit must go to Mr. Sunil Verghese, the Port Harcourt Manager of Comet Shipping and his dedicated staff including the management of NPA Port Harcourt, the Customs Area Controller of Onne Port Command, Comptroller Auwal Mohammed, for their seamless collaboration to ensure that this feat was achieved.
